An interactive sound installation constructed for Nordlysfestivalen 2000 by Geir Jenssen and the English sound sculptor Jony Easterby.
Fluxgate consists of two spires with a row of snowball-targets. When hit by the audiences´s snowballs they will trigger various sounds and data sources including material read and transformed in real time from the Auroral Observatory´s instruments. The activity of the Northern Lights and the accuracy of the audience will determine the character of the music.
This album is probably the most striking thing that has ever happened to me musically. I still can't get used to the richness and unpredictability of the sound, it keeps me surprised after so many listenings. The voice sample in the title track is especially noteworthy. First, I couldn't fully discern the words. But one day I saw the iconic film the sample is taken from — and it was mind-bending to realize that I'm hearing that very phrase. The album is so special and unique to me. HermannHermine
